How to Find People to Play Phasmophobia With in 2026
Phasmophobia is a different game with a team you trust. Four investigators who split the work, with one on the van and cameras, one sweeping for EMF and freezing temperatures, and one watching sanity and calling the retreat, turn a Nightmare contract into a process of elimination. Four strangers in the same hallway turn it into a coin flip. Public lobbies are easy to find. A team that turns up again next week is harder to find, so here’s how to build one in 2026.
Why a standing team beats a public lobby
A public lobby gets you to the truck. It doesn’t give you people who know the evidence, agree on when to leave, or stay after the first death. Phasmophobia punishes a team that doesn’t talk. Evidence is shared, and one person who won’t say what they saw can lose a contract for all four.
A standing team gets better every contract. You stop re-explaining which evidence you’ve ruled out, you learn who panics when a hunt starts, and you pick up the unwritten rules: who carries the crucifix, when to use the smudge sticks, and who goes back for the photo.
Agree on these before the first contract
- Difficulty. Start one step below your least experienced player’s comfort level. Amateur and Intermediate give a new player time to learn. Professional and above punish every wrong call. Move up together.
- Platform and region. Crossplay covers PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with VR players in the same lobbies. Everyone needs to pick the same server region, and the host shares a private lobby code. Levels and unlocks don’t carry across platforms, so a friend switching to play with you starts their progress again.
- Mics. Voice recognition is part of the game. Ghosts respond to what you say, and the Spirit Box and Ouija Board are built around it. A team where everyone has a mic plays a different game from one where half of them are typing. Players without a mic can use Text Voice Recognition Mode, but agree on that up front.
- Schedule. A team only works if people show up. Pick one regular night and stick to it before adding a second.
Split the jobs
Four players doing the same thing is the most common way a contract fails. A simple split that works on most maps:
- Van. Watches the cameras and sound sensors, tracks sanity, and calls the retreat before a hunt starts.
- Evidence lead. Carries EMF and the thermometer, finds the ghost room first, and calls what they rule out.
- Setup. Places cameras, writing books and D.O.T.S. in the ghost room, then takes photos for money.
- Safety. Holds the crucifix and smudge sticks, keeps count of what’s been used, and knows the route to the exit.
Rotate the roles between contracts so nobody is stuck in the van all night. A team where everyone can do every job holds together when someone drops out.
Crimson Eye runs from 8 October to 1 November
Kinetic Games’ Halloween event, Crimson Eye, runs from 8 October to 1 November 2026, and the update that adds it, v0.19.1.0, arrived on 7 October. It also adds a toggle that turns the event maps on or off for your session. Eight maps rotate under Blood Moon weather, including the reworked 6 Tanglewood Drive and 13 Willow Street, and Double XP and rewards run from 15 to 22 October.
That’s the case for getting your team settled now. Blood Moon is where a team that doesn’t talk falls apart, and Double XP only pays if you survive the contract. Get two or three normal nights in before Double XP starts on 15 October, so your team already knows its roles when it counts.
The Unity 6 upgrade follows in November, a small slip from the original October target, so be ready for a patch or two to settle after the event. Phasmophobia 1.0, the next new map and the Nintendo Switch 2 version have moved to 2027.
Where to look in 2026
The usual places for Phasmophobia players are the official Discord, subreddits and public lobbies, and they all have the same gap. There’s no good way to find regular teammates who match your difficulty, your platform and your schedule. A “need 2 for Professional, EU, mics” post gets buried in minutes.
That’s the gap PaxJax fills. Instead of starting over every night, you can:
- Filter players by game, platform and region, so the people you find can join your lobby.
- Jump into Phasmophobia game chat to find players who are online and looking right now.
- Send an Invite to Play directly, so getting a team together takes one tap.
- Save a standing team with a Looking-for-Team profile, so the same four come back for your next contract instead of starting from scratch.
Turn one good contract into a standing team
When a contract goes well, because someone called the evidence cleanly, didn’t leave when they died and went back for the photo, don’t let those players disappear. Add them, note who works well together, and invite the same people next time. After a few nights with the same four, you’ll have a team that can take on Nightmare.
The players worth keeping are the same every year. They say what they’ve ruled out, they leave when the van calls it, and they stay in the lobby after a bad contract. Find three of those while Crimson Eye is on and October will go much better.

Frequently asked questions
- How many players can play Phasmophobia together?
- Up to four. Kinetic Games describes Phasmophobia as a four-player online co-op game, and you can also play solo. Four is the number the game is balanced around: enough people to split the jobs, with nobody left standing around.
- Is Phasmophobia cross-platform?
- Yes. PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S play together, and VR players join the same lobbies. Create a private lobby, share the code, and make sure everyone is set to the same server region. Progress doesn't move between platforms, so your level and unlocks stay where you earned them.
- What difficulty should a new Phasmophobia team play?
- Start one step below the least experienced player's comfort level. A team with a new player learns faster on Amateur or Intermediate, where there's time to talk through the evidence, than on Professional, where one wrong call means a hunt. Move up together once everyone can identify evidence without being told.
- When is the Phasmophobia Halloween event in 2026?
- Crimson Eye runs from 8 October to 1 November 2026, and the update that adds it, v0.19.1.0, arrived on 7 October. Eight maps rotate under Blood Moon weather, and Kinetic Games has scheduled Double XP and rewards from 15 to 22 October.
- When does Phasmophobia 1.0 come out?
- Not in 2026. Kinetic Games moved Phasmophobia 1.0 to 2027, along with the next new map and the Nintendo Switch 2 version. For the rest of 2026 its roadmap lists the Unity 6 upgrade, which Kinetic moved from October to November, then a Player Character update, a rework of 42 Edgefield Road, and changes to Weekly Challenges and Voice Recognition.
- How do I find people to play Phasmophobia with?
- Public lobbies will fill a van, but they won't give you the same four people twice. On PaxJax you can filter players by game, platform and region, send an Invite to Play, and save a standing team, so your regular night has the same investigators every time.
