Valheim is a game about a shared world. Your group builds one longhouse, stocks one set of chests, and fights its way biome by biome to the next boss together. That’s what makes it good with friends, and it’s why a group that falls apart halfway through the Plains hurts. Somebody logs in to find the base empty and the portal network half-built.
Version 1.0 arrived on 9 September 2026 with the Deep North, and Valheim is now on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 as well as PC and Xbox, with crossplay across all of them. There’s never been a better time to start a fresh world. The hard part is finding people who will still be there at the Queen.

- How do I find people to play Valheim with?
- Post a profile with your platform, region and when you play, then browse other Valheim players looking for a group and reach out. On PaxJax you can filter by all of those and save a standing group, so the same Vikings keep coming back to the same world.
- How many players can play Valheim together?
- Up to 10 in one world. Iron Gate describes Valheim as a game for 1 to 10 players, and that cap applies whether you host from the game or run a dedicated server.
- Is Valheim cross-platform?
- Yes. Iron Gate says Valheim supports crossplay between all platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. When you start a server, a join code appears in the pause menu, and friends add it under Join Game. Consoles can join a dedicated server but can't host one, so a PC player runs it.
- Is Valheim 1.0 out?
- Yes. Valheim left Early Access with version 1.0 on 9 September 2026. It added the Deep North, the final planned biome, and launched the game on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Early Access owners got 1.0 as a free update.
- Do Valheim saves carry across platforms?
- Generally no. Iron Gate says there's no cross-platform save sync, with one exception: Xbox saves can carry over to PC through the Microsoft Store. If your group plays across platforms, keep the shared world on a PC-hosted dedicated server.
