How to Find People to Play Elden Ring Nightreign With in 2026

Elden Ring Nightreign is built for three. An expedition goes well when one player scouts the next church, one pulls the boss and one watches for the revive, and it falls apart when all three run in different directions and meet again at the night boss with no flasks. The Nightfarers are designed to cover each other, which only works if the trio knows who’s playing what. The catch is that Nightreign gives you no voice chat. Matchmaking hands you two strangers and no way to say anything to them. Here’s how to find a trio you can actually talk to in 2026.

Why a standing trio beats random matchmaking

Random matchmaking gets you into an expedition. It doesn’t get you people who agree on a route, split the loot sensibly or stay after a failed run. Without voice, every decision is a map marker and a guess. Should you push the fort or head for the castle? Is it time to fall back before the Night’s Tide closes in? A trio on its own voice chat makes those calls in a second.

A standing trio also learns. You find out whose build carries the late game, who’s best on revives and which Nightlords your group struggles with. And since Patch 1.02.2, leaving a session in progress can bring a matchmaking penalty, so a trio that finishes what it starts is worth having.

Agree on these before the first expedition

• Platform. Nightreign has no cross-play between PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Everyone needs to be on the same platform family before anything else matters.
• Voice. There’s no in-game voice chat, so pick where you’ll talk: PlayStation or Xbox party chat, or Discord on PC. Pings and markers are useful, but they don’t replace voice.
• Nightfarers. Agree on who’s playing what. Some kits are built to help the team, like the Revenant’s summoned spirits, the Recluse’s affinity residues and the Ironeye’s Marking. Three players on the same plan does less than a trio that covers each other.
• Mode and goal. Standard expeditions, Everdark Sovereign bosses and Deep of Night all ask for different things. Pick the goal before the night starts.
• Schedule. An expedition takes a while, and a Deep of Night climb takes many. Pick one regular night and stick to it.

How to set it up in the game

At the Roundtable Hold, open the Matchmaking Setting tab and choose the Number of Players. Patch 1.02 added two-player expeditions in July 2025, so a duo no longer needs a random third. The game adjusts its balance to the number of players.

To play with specific people, set a multiplayer password that everyone in your group enters. Bandai Namco also describes community passwords, which give priority random matchmaking with other players using the same password, a useful way for a bigger group to find a third for the night. Multiplayer needs you to be online, so you can’t start a co-op expedition offline.

Deep of Night is where a trio pays off

Deep of Night, added in September 2025, is Nightreign’s hardest mode. You unlock it by defeating the Night Aspect. The target Nightlord stays hidden until the expedition starts, enemies are stronger, weapons carry several effects (some of them harmful), and you climb Depth levels through a rating. At higher depths the map can hide key points, and an Everdark Sovereign may appear on Day 3.

Players of similar depth are generally matched together. That means random matchmaking puts you with a different pair of strangers at every depth, while a standing trio climbs as one team, learns each Nightlord together and can use Reduce Depth when it needs to reset.

What’s in the game in 2026

The Forsaken Hollows, the paid DLC released on 4 December 2025, added two Nightfarers, the Scholar and the Undertaker, bringing the roster to 10. It also added two Day Three bosses and a new Shifting Earth, The Great Hollow. The latest update is Hotfix 1.03.5 from 31 March 2026, which fixed performance dropping in multiplayer. FromSoftware hasn’t announced anything newer.

Nightreign is on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC (Steam). No Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced.

Where to look in 2026

The usual places for Nightreign players are Discord servers, subreddits and community passwords shared on social media, and they all have the same gap. There’s no good way to find regular teammates who match your platform, your Nightfarers and your schedule, and who’ll join your voice chat.
