ARK: Survival Ascended is built around the tribe. Taming takes hours, breeding takes days, and a base full of creatures needs feeding whether you’re online or not. Solo, you spend most of your time keeping things alive. In a tribe, someone runs the tames, someone farms metal and someone stays home with the kibble. The catch is that a tribe of ten who are never online together loses to three who log in every evening. Here’s how to find the three in 2026.

Pick your server before you pick your tribe

The first question isn’t who to play with but where. ARK servers play very differently, and a tribe that disagrees about this won’t last a week.

  • Official PvP. Raids happen while you sleep. A tribe here needs people in different time zones, or at least a schedule, so the base is never empty for long.
  • Official PvE. No raiding, so the pressure is time rather than other players. Good for tribes that want to build big and breed seriously.
  • Small Tribes. Studio Wildcard’s rules here are strict: small teams work independently, and alliances or teaming between tribes count as cheating. Good if you want PvP without the mega-tribes.
  • ARKpocalypse. Official servers with higher-than-usual rates that wipe every month. The next wipe is on 16 October 2026. Search “Arkpocalypse” in the server browser to find them.
  • Private sessions and unofficial servers. A private session holds up to 8 players, and unofficial dedicated servers set their own rates and rules. Best for a group of friends who don’t want strangers around.

Agree on one, then look for tribemates on that kind of server.

Agree on these before you build

  • Schedule. The most important thing. Agree on when each person is usually online, and who checks in on the days the others can’t.
  • Who owns what. Decide early who can claim tames, open storage and demolish structures. ARK’s tribe settings let you control this. Arguments over a stolen Rex end more tribes than raids do.
  • Roles. Tamer, breeder, builder, farmer, defender. Not everyone needs one job, but someone should own each.
  • The plan. A tribe going for boss fights plays differently from one building a castle. Agree on the next goal, not just “survive”.
  • Mics. On PvP especially, a tribe that talks while it’s raided does better than one typing in chat.

Platforms and crossplay

ARK: Survival Ascended is on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Crossplay covers all three, so a PC builder and a PS5 tamer can share a tribe on a crossplay server. Studio Wildcard also runs console-only official servers for players who’d rather not play with PC, so check which kind your tribe is on before you invite someone.

ASA is still in Early Access. Mods marked cross-platform work on console too, so a mixed tribe can share a modded server.

What’s coming this autumn

  • 16 October: ARKpocalypse servers wipe. Everyone starts from nothing, so it’s the easiest moment to join a new tribe.
  • 28 October: the Unreal Engine 5.8 update launches on all platforms, and mods reopen with it.
  • Fear Ascended, ARK’s Halloween event, is coming. Studio Wildcard hasn’t dated it yet. A Halloween build contest on the official ARK Discord takes entries until 3 November.
  • 6 November: the reworked Giganotosaurus arrives.
  • 29 November: a batch of inactive official servers will be marked SUNSET and shut down. If your tribe lives on a quiet server, check whether it’s on the list.

Dragontopia, the $29.99 expansion, adds tameable dragons to existing maps for owners. Its October wave, Gargantar, arrived early on 30 September, and the last wave, a floating skyworld map, is due in December. Tribemates who don’t own it can still play on the same servers.

Where to look in 2026

The usual places are the official ARK Discord, the r/playark subreddit, the survivetheark.com forums and the in-game chat on a new server. They all share the same gap. A “LF tribe, PvE, NA, PS5” post tells you nothing about whether someone will still be online in three weeks, and by then your dinos are starving.

That’s the gap PaxJax fills. Instead of starting over every wipe, you can:

  • Filter survivors by game, platform, region, server type and schedule, so the people you find play where and when you do.
  • Jump into ARK game chat to find players who are online and looking right now.
  • Send an Invite to Play directly, so recruiting takes one tap.
  • Save a standing tribe with a Looking-for-Team profile, so the same group comes back next wipe instead of scattering.

Find Your ARK Tribe

Turn one good session into a standing tribe

When a night goes well, because someone covered the tame while you knocked it out, or logged in to refill the troughs, don’t let those players drift off. Add them, note who plays when, and plan the next session together. After a few weeks, you’ll have a tribe that keeps the base alive while you’re offline.

The tribemates worth keeping are the same on every server. They show up when they said they would, they don’t take the best tames for themselves, and they feed the dinos without being asked. Find a few of those and the island gets a lot less hostile.

Frequently asked questions

How many players can play ARK: Survival Ascended together?
It depends where you play. Studio Wildcard says public online servers hold up to 70 players, private sessions up to 8, and local split-screen is for 2. Studio Wildcard hasn't published a tribe-size cap for its official servers, so check each server's rules, and Small Tribes servers ban alliances and teaming between tribes.
Is ARK: Survival Ascended cross-platform?
Yes. PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players can play together on crossplay servers. Studio Wildcard also runs console-only official servers for players who don't want to play with PC.
What are ARKpocalypse servers?
They're official servers with higher-than-usual rates that wipe every month, so everyone starts from nothing at the same time. The next wipe is on 16 October 2026. Search 'Arkpocalypse' in the server browser to find them. A wipe is the easiest moment to join a new tribe, because nobody has a head start.
What's coming to ARK: Survival Ascended in October and November 2026?
The Unreal Engine 5.8 update launches on all platforms on 28 October, and mods reopen with it. The Fear Ascended Halloween event is coming, but Studio Wildcard hasn't dated it yet. A Halloween build contest on the official Discord takes entries until 3 November, and the reworked Giganotosaurus arrives on 6 November. On 29 November, a batch of inactive official servers will be marked SUNSET and shut down.
Do I need Dragontopia to play with a tribe?
No. Dragontopia is a paid expansion ($29.99) that adds tameable dragons to existing maps. Only owners can tame them, including Gargantar, which arrived on 30 September. Its December wave adds a floating skyworld map. Tribemates without it can still play on the same servers.
How do I find people to play ARK: Survival Ascended with?
Decide on your server type and platform first, then look for players who match. On PaxJax you can filter survivors by game, platform, region, server type and schedule, send an Invite to Play, and save a standing tribe, so someone is online to feed the dinos and defend the base.
