How to Find a Squad for Modern Warfare 4 and DMZ
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on 23 October 2026 with more ways to play together than any Call of Duty in years: 6v6 Multiplayer, the shape-shifting Kill Block, large-scale Ground War, Warzone, and the return of DMZ, Infinity Ward’s extraction mode. Most of those forgive a bad teammate. DMZ doesn’t. When a random bails on the exfil, you lose your gear with them. Here’s how to find a squad that’s worth deploying with, and why to start before launch week.
What you need to know about Modern Warfare 4
- Release: Friday 23 October 2026, worldwide. Multiplayer and DMZ arrive that day.
- Campaign Early Access: from 16 October, included with digital pre-orders. That’s Campaign only, not Multiplayer or DMZ.
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Battle.net, Xbox on PC, Steam) and Nintendo Switch 2. Activision says it won’t be on PS4 or Xbox One.
- Cross-play: full cross-platform play and cross-progression, including Switch 2.
- Game Pass: Activision says it won’t be on Game Pass at launch.
- Developer and setting: Infinity Ward, with a campaign built around a war on the Korean Peninsula. DMZ takes place in the Hajin Exclusion Zone the campaign leaves behind.

Decide what your squad is for
“LFG MW4” isn’t specific enough, because MW4’s modes want different groups:
- Core 6v6. 12 maps at launch, classics like Domination and Hardpoint, and new modes including Hijack, where you carry and pass a Data Spike to the enemy’s base, and Inflation, where every elimination drops cash and the richest team wins. A full six is ideal. A settled four plus two fills works too.
- Kill Block. A modular map built from three sections, called Slabs, that reconfigure between matches, with more than 500 layouts at launch. It runs Gunfight modes, including the new Gunfight 10v10. A layout you’ve never seen rewards a squad that calls what it sees.
- Ground War. Large maps, vehicles and the new Combat Outpost mode. It needs fewer tight callouts, but you still want a squad that plays the objective.
- DMZ. The extraction mode, and the one that most needs a real squad. There’s more on that below.
Weapon progression tracks across Multiplayer and DMZ, and camo challenges span Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone. A squad that plays several modes together isn’t losing progress by switching.
Why DMZ is the mode that needs a real squad
DMZ drops you into Hajin to complete Story Missions and Dynamic Operations, loot, and get out, with AI forces, weather and other players’ squads in the way. Activision has built it to be playable solo: there’s a stealth meter, and a new tourniquet gets you back up once if nobody’s there to revive you. But a lot of the mode quietly assumes you brought people:
- Your gear persists. Between runs your weapons and loot sit in a persistent Stash at your Forward Operating Base. Fail to extract and what you carried in is at risk. There’s an MIA system that spends cash to recover a lost operator, but it isn’t free.
- Other squads are hunting you. Killing rival players builds notoriety and puts a bounty on your head. When a Lieutenant’s dog tag case drops, everyone in the match can see it. A squad that watches angles and moves together survives that. A solo player mostly hides.
- Revives and exfils are team decisions. Whether to push deeper for better loot or leave now is the call that ends most runs. That’s a conversation, and it goes badly with someone who won’t talk.
- Proximity chat is back, and better. You can hear rival operators nearby, and can negotiate with them or bluff. That works best when your own squad is on voice and knows the plan.
Hands-on previews describe DMZ as built around three-player squads. Activision’s own intel only says “solo or with a squad”, so check the in-game party limit at launch. Either way, the people you want are the same:
- Players who agree on pace. “Low and slow” stealth and “fast and loud” aggression are both valid ways to play. Mixing them in one squad isn’t.
- Players who share loot sensibly. Agree before you deploy who takes the armour, who carries the valuables and how you split a vault.
- Players who exfil on time. The best DMZ teammate isn’t the best shot. It’s the one who says “we’re leaving” at the right moment and means it.
Settle platform, input and the purchase before launch
- Cross-play covers everyone. PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 can all squad up. What’s worth agreeing on is input, controller or mouse and keyboard, and whether everyone leaves cross-play on.
- PS4 and Xbox One are out. A squad-mate still on last-gen hardware needs an upgrade before 23 October.
- Game Pass isn’t day one. This one catches people out. Anyone planning to play through Game Pass won’t be there at launch, so find out now who’s actually buying it.
How PaxJax helps you build it
The usual places to find teammates (in-game LFG, subreddits, big Discord servers) work for one match. They’re bad at finding people who play your mode, on your schedule, and still show up next week. A “need 2 for DMZ, NA, mic” post gets buried in minutes.
That’s the gap PaxJax fills. Instead of starting over every night, you can:
- Filter players by game, platform and region, so the people you find are playing when you are and on a connection that works.
- List your role (AR, SMG, flex or IGL) so a squad missing someone to call the plays can find you.
- Send an Invite to Play directly, so getting a squad together takes one tap.
- Save a standing squad with a Looking-for-Team profile, so your group is ready to go on 23 October instead of forming up in the lobby.
Find Your Modern Warfare 4 Squad
Keep the squad past launch week
Launch week is the easiest time all year to find people. Everyone’s new, nobody knows Hajin or the Kill Block layouts yet, and everyone is looking for a group. That doesn’t last, and a month in, the good players already have their squads. When a run goes well, add those people, note who made the right exfil call, and deploy with them again tomorrow.
